Midland Legacy is 4-0 against Montwood since September of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Midland Legacy Rebels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Montwood Rams at 7:00 p.m. Midland Legacy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Montwood likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Midland Legacy beat Odessa 32-21. Given Midland Legacy's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Odessa is ranked 190th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Midland Legacy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tommy Johnson iii, who rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Madden Milloy, who rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
Meanwhile, Montwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 26-21 to Coronado.
Gio Varela put forth a good effort for the losing side as he picked up 146 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Varela is on a roll when it comes to receiving yards, as he's now posted 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Midland Legacy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Montwood, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Midland Legacy against Montwood in their previous matchup back in December of 2020 as the squad secured a 66-21 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Montwood's Kevin Melendez, who threw for 163 yards and three touchdowns.
