Now if they can just nab a couple more golden nugget five-star recruits: tackle
Martez Ivey, of
Apopka (Fla.), and defensive ends
Byron Cowart of
Armwood (Seffner, Fla.) and
Cece Jefferson of
Baker County (Glen St. Mary, Fla.).
All three are uncommitted Top 10 recruits overall and if the Hurricanes can land any or all, they will move up from their No. 20 national ranking, which currently includes six four-star players and 13 three-star standouts. Four-star safety
Jaquan Johnson, of
Killian (Miami) has already enrolled.
Other key recruits include a pair of 4-star running backs in
Mark Walton of
Washington (Miami), and
Jordan Scarlett of
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).
The other four-star prizes are tackles in
Bar Milo (6-6, 270), an offensive tackle from
Chaminade (West Hills, Calif.) — Miami's only California recruit — and
Tyree St. Louis (6-5, 300), from
IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.).
The only position, other than kicker, where Miami hasn't received a commitment is quarterback. True freshman Brad Kaaya started all 13 games for Miami (9-4) last year and threw for 3,198 yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
