The Monsignor Scanlan Crusaders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 21 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Holy Cross with a sharp 67-46 win on Wednesday. Given Monsignor Scanlan's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Holy Cross is ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mona Okorie, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Okorie is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Kyara Champagne was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
The win (which was Monsignor Scanlan's third in a row) raised their record to 8-1. As for Holy Cross, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monsignor Scanlan's road trip will continue as they head out to face Archbishop Molloy at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. As for Holy Cross, they will square off against Mary Louis Academy at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Mary Louis Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
