Baseball Recap: Walnut Grove Makes It Five in a Row at Home

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Walnut Grove and Madison County, and Walnut Grove kept the tradition alive. Walnut Grove put the hurt on Madison County with a sharp 8-2 victory on Friday. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Jarrod Cook made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Cook was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sean Martell, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Walnut Grove's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Madison County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walnut Grove will head out to square off against East Forsyth at 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday. Walnut Grove is facing East Forsyth at the right time seeing as East Forsyth is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Madison County, they will challenge Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eastside has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something Madison County will no doubt try to take advantage of.
