The May River Sharks will head out on the road to challenge the Colleton County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (May River has five straight victories, Colleton County has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
In what's become a running theme this season, May River gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They blew past St. Andrew's 53-31. Given May River's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 95th in South Carolina, while St. Andrew's is ranked 450th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Colleton County struggled with offensive rebounds last Friday (Hanahan had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Colleton County took a 45-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hanahan. That's two games in a row now that Colleton County has lost by exactly five points.
Despite the defeat, Colleton County had strong showings from Heaven Green, who scored 11 points along with six steals, and Akeelyah Daniel, who scored ten points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Daniel has scored all season.
May River's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Colleton County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
May River came up short against Colleton County in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 51-47. Can May River avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
