Baseball Game Preview: Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks vs. Springfield Tigers

The Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks will take on the Springfield Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Dawson-Boyd barely beat Central Minnesota Christian the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blackjacks blew past the Bluejays 15-4 on Tuesday. The Blackjacks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 13, 2024 (when they won 13-2).

Nathan Hansen was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kameron Sather and Tygan Long did most of the damage at the plate: Sather got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Long went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave Long a new career-high. Colten Bothun was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Dawson-Boyd kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Minnesota Christian only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Springfield strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Lester Prairie a 10-0 shutout. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Springfield's win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. As for Dawson-Boyd, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
