Vienna has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They and the Viburnum Blue Jays will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Vienna focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Tuesday.
In what's become a running theme this season, Vienna gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bourbon 64-32 at home. Given Vienna's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 235th, while Bourbon is ranked 474th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Cash Stricklan, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Zimmer, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, sadly, Viburnum is still looking for their first win of the season after 15 contests. They were beaten by Marquand-Zion 79-22 on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Viburnum in their matchups with Marquand-Zion: they've now lost three in a row.
Vienna's victory bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Viburnum, their loss was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-15.
Everything came up roses for Vienna against Viburnum when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 69-27 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Vienna since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
