Auburn has gone 9-1 against Fort Chiswell recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Auburn is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Narrows get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
The team relied heavily on Hope Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnnie Gaynor, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Fort Chiswell made sure to put some runs up on the board against Parry McCluer on Thursday. The Pioneers were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Fighting Blues. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pioneers.
Blair Jackson made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Jenna Ball and Lilly Goforth did most of the damage at the plate: Ball went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Goforth went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Goforth is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Kimberlyn Hart was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Fort Chiswell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Auburn pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Chiswell, their victory bumped their record up to 16-6.
Auburn took their win against Fort Chiswell in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 12-3 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pioneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
