The Coventry Comets will head out to square off against the Norton Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Coventry's last matchup with Northwest could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Thursday. The Comets came up short against the Indians, falling 9-3. The loss continues a trend for the Comets in their meetings with the Indians: they've now lost three in a row.
Scarlet Dineff made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Isabella Smith was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Norton couldn't beat Manchester on Friday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fifth inning. Norton lost 17-7 to Manchester.
Norton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Messer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Another was Gianna Calhoun, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Norton's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Coventry, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coventry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like Norton struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coventry came out on top in a nail-biter against Norton in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
