The Milton Black Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Mifflinburg Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Milton is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
Last Friday, Milton didn't have too much trouble with Bloomsburg at home as they won 38-19. Given Milton's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Bloomsburg is ranked 489th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Among those leading the charge was Cale Bastian, who threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Chris Doyle and his 89 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Milton's victory.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last matchup, Mifflinburg made sure to put some points up on the board against Shikellamy on Friday. Mifflinburg breezed by Shikellamy at home to the tune of 42-12. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Mifflinburg had established a 23 point advantage.
Mifflinburg's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Troy Dressler, who picked up 179 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Chad Martin was another key contributor, throwing for 278 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt.
Milton's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-1. To be fair, it's not like the team was facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 Holy Redeemer and 1-6 Bloomsburg (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35.7% over those games). As for Mifflinburg, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Milton skirted past Mifflinburg 29-26 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Milton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
