Lisa Arkelian made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Chloe Wright was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Addie Jones, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Willits was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Point Arena entered their tilt with Credo on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 33-23 margin over the Gryphon.
The team relied heavily on Hattie Piper, who got on base in six of her seven plate appearances with six runs, three stolen bases, and one triple. Montserrat Cruz was another key player, getting on base in six of her seven plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Willits pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Point Arena, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Willits has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .515. However, it's not like Point Arena struggles in that department as they've averaged .552. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Willits took their win against Point Arena in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
