The Kofa Kings entered their tilt with the Copper Canyon Aztecs with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Kofa had just enough and edged Copper Canyon out 40-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Kofa has posted yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kofa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amani Montiel, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Shantal Montiel was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Several Aztecs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bri'ann Felix, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Felix is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zalaya Dupre, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Copper Canyon struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Kofa is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. As for Copper Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
Kofa and Gila Ridge will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Gila Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Kofa in Arizona (Gila Ridge is ranked 88th, while Kofa is ranked 204th). As for Copper Canyon, they will head out on the road to square off against Buckeye at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Buckeye is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
