The Tuckahoe Tigers will face off against the Hastings Yellow Jackets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Tuckahoe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Tuckahoe's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Blind Brook by a score of 5-0. The victory was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won three matches in a row.
Declan McColgan tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Luca Delconte was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Vincent Justino, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hastings). Everything went their way against Valhalla on Thursday as they made off with a 16-6 win. The Yellow Jackets have beaten the Vikings the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Vikings has come to flipping the script.
Jackson Acree made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hastings is 5-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Acree was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kieran McGrath, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Hastings: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-6 otherwise. Julius Stephens was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Hastings kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Tuckahoe's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hastings, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tuckahoe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hastings struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tuckahoe might still be hurting after the 11-5 loss they got from Hastings in their previous meeting back in June of 2021. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
