A well-balanced attack led the Shawnee Indians over the Van Wert Cougars in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Shawnee blew past the Cougars 47-23. Given Shawnee's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Cougars are ranked 567th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shawnee found their leader in underclassman Beckett Bertke, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bertke has scored at least a third of Shawnee's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Lynch, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Shawnee is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Van Wert, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
Shawnee will be playing in front of their home fans against the Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ottawa-Glandorf is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. As for Van Wert, they will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
