The Muncy Indians will face off against the Northwest Area Rangers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Muncy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Muncy had taken Sullivan County down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Indians fell just short of the Griffins by a score of 5-4.
Chevelle Bauman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, Taylor Shannon was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Northwest Area came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Bucks with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Rangers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Northwest Area also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Jenna Robaczewski gave up a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. Robaczewski has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ava Ruckle was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Abygail Miller was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Northwest Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Northwest Area pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Muncy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Muncy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. However, it's not like Northwest Area struggles in that department as they've averaged .542. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Muncy took their win against Northwest Area in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rangers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
