TUCSON, Ariz. -
Andrew Cota threw two touchdowns and ran for two more as
Salpointe Catholic (Tucson, Ariz.) upset Liberty (Peoria, Ariz.) 45-14 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Cota to
Kaelin Deboskie in the first quarter, the Lancers led 31-0 at the half.
Salpointe Catholic grew its lead to 45 points entering the fourth quarter. SC scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown pass by Cota to
Cameron Denson.
The loss snapped Liberty's five-game winning streak.
The Tucson school went into the matchup giving up only 5.5 points per game. Liberty's 14 points were well below their season average of 38.2 per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Liberty, which notched a 57-20 victory over Mountain View in its previous outing.
