The Richwood Lumberjacks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. The contest between them and Pocahontas County wasn't particularly close, with Richwood falling 58-42. Richwood has not had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Richwood lost, one person who can't be blamed is Grant Russell. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trae Trivolette, who scored nine points.
Clayton Burns was a one-man wrecking crew for Pocahontas County as he scored 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Burns also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Carter Vandevander, who scored 13 points.
Richwood dropped their record down to 1-14 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pocahontas County, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-12.
Richwood will head out on the road to take on the Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in West Virginia (Gilmer County is ranked 112th, while the Lumberjacks are ranked 123rd). As for Pocahontas County, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. Moorefield has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 30.
