The Midfield Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Elkmont Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Midfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Monday.
Last Monday, Midfield was able to grind out a solid win over Jackson-Olin, taking the game 63-52. Given Midfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Jackson-Olin is ranked 252nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Midfield's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Armonie Franklin, who scored 3 points along with 12 steals and 9 assists, and Brandon Riddle, who scored 11 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds. Franklin is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Dujuan McKinney was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Elkmont lost a heartbreaker to West Limestone when they met back in November of 2021, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. The match between both teams wasn't particularly close, with Elkmont falling 55-37. They have not had much luck with West Limestone recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Midfield pushed their record up to 4-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Elkmont, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Midfield against Elkmont when the teams last played back in February as the squad secured a 71-25 victory. Will Midfield repeat their success, or does Elkmont have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
