After both having extra time off, the West Craven Eagles and the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in West Craven's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
West Craven's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Thursday. They blew past North Pitt 11-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Riley Dixon made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Jarman, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Izabella Sutton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
West Craven hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe hadn't done well against Washington recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Thursday. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Pam Pack 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Mackenzie Rogers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Iyera Winstead was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Mackenzie Moore was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
SouthWest Edgecombe's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for West Craven, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. West Craven has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like SouthWest Edgecombe struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
West Craven skirted past SouthWest Edgecombe 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
