Central Catholic blew Sandy out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Sandy got their revenge. The Rams fell just short of the Pioneers by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rams have suffered since May 2, 2024.
Olivia Pompetti was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Portland Razo, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Nelson got themselves on the board against David Douglas on Monday, but David Douglas never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Scots with a sharp 11-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for Nelson.
The team relied heavily on Ellie Nix, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Huspek, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Nelson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Nelson pushed their record up to 6-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Central Catholic's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Rams have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Nelson, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Central Catholic continue to outrun the ball?
