The Richlands Wildcats were the 44-32 winner over the Swansboro Pirates when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Richlands fell 43-33 to Swansboro on Tuesday. Richlands has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Richlands saw an underclassman step up: Mia Wells scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Wells hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Tashi Allen was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds.
Swansboro's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addison King, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Malaya Beasley, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and seven steals.
Richlands has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Swansboro, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richlands will square off against Dixon at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Richlands is facing Dixon at the right time seeing as Dixon is stuck on a 11-game losing streak. As for Swansboro, they will head out on the road to face off against West Carteret at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Carteret is coming into the contest with three straight victories at home, meaning Swansboro will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
