Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Escalante Lobos, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by Eunice 49-0 on Saturday. Escalante has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Eunice found their leader in underclassman Elijah Melancon, who threw for 270 yards and six touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Melancon was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards. Luis Gomez was in the mix as well, providing Eunice with two touchdowns.
Escalante's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Eunice, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Escalante does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Eunice will be playing in front of their home fans against Tularosa at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tularosa is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
