Softball Recap: Lakewood Drops Highest Score of Season Against Union

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakewood). They were the clear victor by a 24-5 margin over the Union Spartans on Tuesday. The victory was nothing new for the Leopards as they're now sitting on three straight.

Caitlyn Bass was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lakewood let Ryleigh Miller and Tayler Fye run wild. Miller scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Fye scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Fye a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Fancy Bullard, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Lakewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Lakewood's win bumped their record up to 3-5-1. As for Union, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakewood will venture away from home to square off against North Duplin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Union, they are taking a road trip to challenge Rosewood at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rosewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
