4A Region I District 1 recap September 4, 2013
Austin's Ricky Olivas recorded the longest rushing play in 4A Region I District 1 this season in his game against Horizon last week. Olivas' team lost to the Scorpions as he sprinted for 75 yards on the play and finished with 328 in all.
Irvin scaled the state rankings by moving to 1,000 from 1,107 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Rockets were able to make move up by besting Mountain View 13-0.
Bryant Wolf put up the best numbers through the air as El Paso fell to Parkland. He had a total of 10 completions for 90 yards. Wolf's favorite target this week was Edwin Herrera, who caught 3 passes for 33 yards.
Olivas was a beast in the backfield as Austin fell to Horizon.
Olivas was the best running back in the league this week. Damian Barraza also contributed to the rushing game with 15 yards on the ground.
Alex Rincon was the best receiver in 4A Region I District 1 this week as Jefferson lost to Socorro. Rincon racked up 4 receptions for 68 yards. Iram Delgado helped Jefferson's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 52 yards.
Olivas provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Rodney Ryan's team fell to David Telas' team.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Silver Foxes' Jesus Ortiz and Rincon have proven to be a lethal combination. Ortiz has thrown for 149 yards this season, while Rincon has 4 catches for 68 yards. The Panthers' Olivas leads the league in rushing yards with 328.
Andress was the team made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to fourth in the league. The Eagles beat Hanks 43-28 earlier in the week.
