The Freeport Red Devils struggled with assists on Wednesday (Academy Charter had 900% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Freeport fell 61-52 to Academy Charter.
Loss or not, Freeport got some senior leadership from Jaylen Jean-Louis who scored 18 points and Jevon Saul who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
Academy Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joel Beard out in front who scored 16 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Beard has scored at least 25% of Academy Charter's points. Another player making a difference was Emmanuel Derosier, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds.
Freeport's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Academy Charter, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Freeport will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Lawrence at 12:00 p.m. As for Academy Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against Broome Street Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
