Central Cabarrus has gone 9-1 against Concord recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Central Cabarrus will host Concord at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Central Cabarrus took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against West Cabarrus, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Central Cabarrus had just enough and edged out West Cabarrus 5-3.
Tellis Bumgarner tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Paulie Coubal, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Garret Black was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Concord). They blew past Salisbury 23-13 on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Jerry 'Neil' Hammill made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Hammill was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Maxwell Pryduluk was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Dorian Young, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Concord always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .580. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Concord and bumps their season record up to 3-8. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11 hits in those games compared to only 4.33 in the others. As for Central Cabarrus, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Central Cabarrus beat Concord 9-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Central Cabarrus have another victory up their sleeve, or will Concord turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
