The Opp Bobcats struggled with assists on Friday (the New Brockton Gamecocks had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Opp took a 58-40 bruising from New Brockton. Opp has struggled against New Brockton recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Opp lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dionna Stoudemire, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds. Stoudemire hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cuba Wiggins, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Opp smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 12th loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
New Brockton found their leader in underclassman Reese Eddins, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Aniya Barkley, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Opp's loss dropped their record down to 1-17. As for New Brockton, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Opp and Elba will face off at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Elba is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road. As for New Brockton, they will be playing at home against Pike County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
