Basketball Recap: Victoria Zamora Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Palo Verde Valley

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They snuck past the Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets with a 57-51 win. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 51-47 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Victoria Zamora, who posted 20 points along with five steals and three blocks. The matchup was Zamora's third in a row with at least ten points. Maryanne Barrett was another key player, putting up 16 points and four steals.

Palo Verde Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ruby Felix, who went 5 of 7 en route to 15 points. Felix is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaslene Crowe, who had 12 points.

Central is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Palo Verde Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8.

Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-36 defeat against Vincent Memorial on the 27th. Palo Verde Valley has also already played their next match, a 41-27 loss against Imperial on the 27th.
