On Tuesday, the Murray Spartans's game was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They enjoyed a cozy 61-46 victory over Cyprus. Given Murray's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Cyprus is ranked 110th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Deacon Poole, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. Kade Whitlock was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Cyprus saw an underclassman step up: Beckham Bayles scored 23 points. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Spencer Speirs, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Murray and bumps their season record up to 5-1. As for Cyprus, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Murray will head out on the road to face off against Kearns at 7:00 p.m. on December 21st. Cyprus will be home for the holidays to greet West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
