Lincoln County has gone 9-1 against Wayne recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Panthers will take on the Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. Lincoln County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
While Lincoln County's win against Scott wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Skyhawks 1-0 on Monday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Skyhawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past Arien Cooper, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Scott off the board.
On the hitting side, Lincoln County saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Laney Nelson, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Lincoln County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wayne, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Everything went their way against Poca on Monday as they made off with a 9-1 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Pioneers have posted against the Dots since April 25, 2019.
Kaliah Merritt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Alexa Bishop was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Lexi Napier also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lincoln County's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Wayne, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-7.
Lincoln County took their victory against Wayne in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
