Two dominant guards in Amayah Leyva and Mia Brown are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Buckeye Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Horizon Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Buckeye will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
In what's become a running theme this season, Buckeye gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Copper Canyon 54-27 on the road.
It was another big night for Leyva, who scored 25 points along with five steals. She has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiria Avila escarcega, who scored eight points along with nine assists and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Horizon's strategy against the Firebirds on Monday. Horizon enjoyed a cozy 58-43 victory over the Firebirds. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Horizon.
Horizon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Noel Gallegos led the charge by scoring 19 points. Peyton Schiltz was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Buckeye has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 18-7 record this season. As for Horizon, their win bumped their record up to 16-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Buckeye have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Horizon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Buckeye came up short against the Huskies in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 45-35. Will Buckeye have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
