After flying high against Northland Prep Academy last Tuesday, Pinon came back down to earth. The Pinon Eagles fell 57-48 to the Round Valley Elks on Saturday. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Elks from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Pinon had strong showings from Hanka Benally, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Kylie Bia, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 12 points. Bia continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Round Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Addison Poston out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. Poston's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelci Walker, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards.
Pinon's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Round Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.
Pinon will host St. Johns at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Round Valley, they will welcome Morenci at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
