Torrey Pines has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Coronado Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Torrey Pines knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Coronado likes a good challenge.
Last Tuesday, Torrey Pines was able to grind out a solid victory over Cathedral Catholic, taking the game 65-54.
Torrey Pines relied on the efforts of Zach Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Matin Madadkar, who scored 23 points. The match was Madadkar's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Kail, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Coronado pushed their score all the way to 58 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Valhalla by a score of 60-58. Coronado has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Torrey Pines' victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Coronado, they bumped their record down to 1-7 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Torrey Pines against Coronado in their previous matchup back in December of 2021 as the squad secured a 76-38 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Torrey Pines since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
