After a string of nine wins, the Summit Academy Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were beaten by New Dorp 97-49. Summit Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-15.
Defeat or not, Summit Academy got some senior leadership from Mariyha Boston and Sariah Gammon. Boston scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Gammon. scored 13 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Skyla Lawrence, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Summit Academy's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-4. As for New Dorp, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summit Academy will take on Bedford Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Bedford Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while Summit Academy is ranked 103rd). As for New Dorp, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Curtis at 5:30 p.m.
