Ray hasn't had much luck against Carroll recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Ray Texans will head out on the road to face off against the Carroll Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Ray will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Ray made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Corpus Christi Moody, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Ray was the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over Corpus Christi Moody on Saturday. The Texans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Sarina Gomez was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailey Benavides, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Ray always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Carroll never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Miller on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Buccaneers with a sharp 13-1 victory. Considering the Tigers have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Isabella Montalvo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Carroll got a massive performance out of Ava Sanchez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Aubryna Luna was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Carroll's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.5 strikeouts in those games compared to only 4.14 in the others. As for Ray, their record is now 6-12.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ray hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've averaged .439. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ray might still be hurting after the 20-0 defeat they got from Carroll in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Ray avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
