Basketball Recap: Eli Roof's Big Game Can't Quite Lead East Rutherford over Hendersonville

If East Rutherford was riding high fresh off their 60-39 takedown of Polk County last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The contest between the East Rutherford Cavaliers and the Hendersonville Bearcats didn't end well, with the East Rutherford Cavaliers falling 76-59. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 519th, while the Bearcats are ranked 229th).

East Rutherford lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Eli Roof, who went 6 for 9 en route to 15 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Roof a new career-high in points. Jj Arrowood was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Hendersonville found their leader in sophomore Jordan Wynn, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Wynn is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Martiste Mills, who posted 14 points and four steals.

East Rutherford has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Hendersonville, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.

East Rutherford will be playing at home against Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Shelby is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.2 points per game this season. Hendersonville has already played their next game (against Patton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
