Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Devine

Devine got themselves on the board against Uvalde on Tuesday, but Uvalde never followed suit. They were the clear victor by an 8-0 margin over the Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls). The result was nothing new for the Warhorses, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Tucker Traylor was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Devine let Yaya Rodriguez and Kenny Cruz run wild. Rodriguez scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Cruz scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, Cruz posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Natalie Valle was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Devine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Uvalde only posted a batting average of .087.

The win was the fifth in a row for Devine, bringing their record for this year to 13-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Uvalde, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-9-1.

Looking ahead, Devine will square off against Carrizo Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Uvalde, they will take on Somerset at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Uvalde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
