Baseball Recap: Bishop Canevin Has No Trouble Against Springdale

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against DuBois Central Catholic, Bishop Canevin was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Springdale Dynamos. The Crusaders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Tyler Maddix made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bishop Canevin is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Maddix was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Brady Wagner was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Bishop Canevin: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Aaryn Edwards, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Bishop Canevin's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Springdale, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Canevin will face off against Clairton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Springdale, they will challenge Riverview at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Dynamos' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
