Softball Recap: Wakefield Now 10-1 over Last 11 Games

Wakefield has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.33 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Rolesville Rams with a sharp 16-10 win. Considering the Wolverines have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kensley Harrison was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brianna Riehle, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ella Lampman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Wakefield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive contests.

Wakefield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Rolesville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Wakefield is set to take on their familiar foe Wake Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolverines 3.3, the Cougars 0.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Rolesville will face off against rival Millbrook at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
