The Sparta Spartans fought the good fight in their overtime match against the La Crosse Logan Rangers on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 60-53 to the Rangers. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sparta in their matchups with La Crosse Logan: they've now lost four in a row.
Amelia Russ and Elexa Jones certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Russ scored 20 points along with six rebounds, while Jones scored 15 points along with three steals. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for Jones. Another player making a difference was Izzy Mickelson, who scored four points.
Sparta bumped their record down to 2-6 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for La Crosse Logan, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4.
Sparta will take on Reedsburg at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Reedsburg presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sparta in Wisconsin (Reedsburg is ranked 87th, while Sparta is ranked 297th). As for La Crosse Logan, they will head out on the road to face off against Eau Claire Memorial at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Eau Claire Memorial will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
