College Prep & Leadership Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Melody Johnson out in front who went 6-for-11 on her way to 17 points. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of MacKenzie Dumbuya, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 13 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Piedmont Classical). They walked away with a 59-49 victory over Cornerstone Charter on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won five in a row.
Piedmont Classical's win came from a few key players College Prep & Leadership Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ge'Kayla Goins, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine steals. Goins is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Nafi Kanoute was another key player, going 6-for-12 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds.
Piedmont Classical's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for College Prep & Leadership Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's contest: College Prep & Leadership Academy has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 43% of their three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Piedmont Classical, though, as they've only made 22.1% of their threes this season. Given College Prep & Leadership Academy's sizable advantage in that area, Piedmont Classical will need to find a way to close that gap.
College Prep & Leadership Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Piedmont Classical in their previous meeting back in January, winning 43-31. Does College Prep & Leadership Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Piedmont Classical turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
