Baseball Recap: Towanda Wins Going Away Against Canton

Towanda made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Canton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Black Knights blew past the Warriors 12-2 on Thursday. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Black Knights this season.

Jack Tavani and Gianni Assante made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Tavani didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Assante tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tavani has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Tavani scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3, while Assante scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Tavani also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Boom Thompson and Rylee Sluyter did most of the damage at the plate: Thompson scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Sluyter scored a run while going 2-for-3. Thompson has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Wil Shrawder, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Towanda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Towanda and bumps their season record up to 3-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Canton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Coming up, Towanda will be playing in front of their home fans against Troy at 4:30 p.m. on the 11th. As for Canton, they will head out to face off against South Williamsport at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
