It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Gordonsville Tigers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 35-15 win. Gordonsville's victory was all the more impressive since Whitwell was averaging only 17.83 points allowed on the season.
Gordonsville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but J Foster led the charge by throwing for 248 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Dalton Hancock was another key contributor, picking up 123 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Whitwell's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Therion Mordecai, who rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Gordonsville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Whitwell, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 8-4.
Gordonsville will head out on the road to face off against South Pittsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as South Pittsburg comes in on 12 and Gordonsville on three. Whitwell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
