South Portland dropped their record down to 7-2 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Falmouth Navigators by a score of 6-5. The Red Riots were not able to make up for their loss to the Navigators from their previous meeting back in June of 2024.
Easton Healy put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Healy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Healy wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Corbin Voisine, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base and one run. Michael Zaccaria also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Falmouth, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4-1. That's two games straight that they have won by just one run.
Like South Portland, Falmouth also got a great game from a two-way player: Tyler Simmons. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Simmons posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Milo Matson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. South Portland is set to face off against their familiar foe Biddeford at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Riots 1.7, the Tigers 1.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Falmouth will square off against rival Deering at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
