It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Argonaut had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Colfax Falcons as they made off with an 18-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Hailey Dewald made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, AJ Schultz was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Bailey Baker, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Argonaut always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colfax only posted an OBP of .150.
Argonaut is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Colfax, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-11.
Looking ahead, Argonaut will challenge Le Grand at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Colfax does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
