The Central Bucks East Patriots will head out to take on the Pennridge Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Central Bucks East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Central Bucks East managed to slip by Central Bucks South the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Central Bucks East lost 14-7 to Central Bucks South on Tuesday. The loss was the Patriots' first of the season.
Maggie Funston made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Carly Franklin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Funston wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Central Bucks East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Pennridge came up short against Coatesville on Wednesday, falling 8-1. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Destiny Novashinski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Averi Dockery was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.
Having lost for the first time this season, Central Bucks East fell to 4-1. As for Pennridge, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 2-2.
Pennridge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Central Bucks East hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. It's a different story for Pennridge, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Central Bucks East's hitters?
Central Bucks East couldn't quite finish off Pennridge in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 4-2. Can Central Bucks East avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
