The Central Cabarrus Vikings will challenge the Olympic Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Cabarrus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Central Cabarrus blew South Rowan out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday South Rowan got their revenge. The Vikings fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 2-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.
Central Cabarrus saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Fink, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Olympic). They were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over Harding University on Friday.
Joseangel Vasquez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Vasquez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Olympic got a massive performance out of Aiden Word, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Word a new career-high. Aiden Preston was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Olympic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Central Cabarrus' defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Olympic, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Central Cabarrus couldn't quite finish off Olympic when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 5-3. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
