Softball Recap: Aquinas Institute Wins Going Away Against Northstar Christian Academy

Aquinas Institute owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Northstar Christian Academy Knights as they made off with a 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Little Irish, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Kendall Buttles made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Delilah Rogers was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Riley Madigan, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Aquinas Institute has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Northstar Christian Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aquinas Institute will take on Finney at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Northstar Christian Academy, they will face off against Bishop Kearney at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Kings have averaged an impressive 12 runs per game this season.
