Softball Recap: Nogales Takes a Loss

Nogales extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-13. They lost 11-1 to the Desert View Jaguars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on Tuesday.

Zendy Peralta was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last four times she's played.

As for Desert View, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

On Desert View's side, Jasmine Reyna made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. What's more, Reyna posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Desert View let Leyla Garza and Myla Sutton run wild. Garza got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Sutton got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI. That's the most RBI Sutton has posted over her last nine matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaya Godoy, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Nogales will look to defend their home field on Friday against Walden Grove at 4:00 p.m. As for Desert View, they will head out on the road to square off against Amphitheater at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.9 runs per game on average), something the Jaguars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
