The Crossroads Christian Colts will face off against the Oxford Prep Griffins at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Oxford Prep will be up against a hot Crossroads Christian squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Crossroads Christian's pitchers stepped up to hand Lee Christian a 15-0 shutout last Friday. 15 seems to be a good number for the Colts as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Easton Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Tippett, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Crossroads Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lee Christian only posted an OBP of .231.
Meanwhile, Oxford Prep put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. Everything went their way against Eno River Academy as Oxford Prep made off with a 23-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Griffins in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won eight in a row.
Bryson Preddy and Hunter Woodlief made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Preddy didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Woodlief tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Preddy has been consistent : he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Preddy went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Woodlief got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave Preddy a new career-high.
In other batting news, Oxford Prep got a massive performance out of Jayce Elliott, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was Elliott's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Drew West, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Oxford Prep's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Crossroads Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Crossroads Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Oxford Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
